by Harold Pinter
Pinter is not primarily thought of as a comic writer, but this play is at times hilarious! Older patrons may be reminded of the Goon Show, written in the same decade. At other times, the mood is very black and unsettling.
Set in a 1950’s government–run mental institution, where forgotten people are referred to by numbers, a sinister murder plot is hatched against a background of corruption, sexual favours, and hopeless bureaucratic incompetence. A blend of tragedy and farce, terror and nonsense.
