Lighthearted Intercourse
Summerseat Players are proud to present this amateur premiere of Bill Naughton’s Lighthearted Intercourse.
The story tells us of a young married couple, Joe and Madge, and their small baby, Lionel. Joe is unemployed and looking for work, but he’d much rather be spending his time with his wife, Madge. But Joe also has a past love on his mind – Mary. Does Joe love Madge? Does Madge love Joe? What actually is love?
This is a tender, funny and intimate portrayal of a young couple living in 1920’s Ramsbottom*, adjusting to married life and discussing their fears, anxieties and conflicting needs.
*With kind agreement from Bill Naughton’s nephew and the director/co-author David Thacker, this production has been reset from the original location of Bolton, to Ramsbottom. After Bill Naughton’s death, a number of drafts of this play were discovered, and David Thacker (formerly Artistic Director of Bolton Octagon and current Professor of Theatre at the University of Bolton) brought the versions together into this wonderfully heart-warming play.
Dates: Monday 12 – Saturday 17 June 2023 (please note that this is a slight change to our originally advertised dates).
PLEASE NOTE: Our Studio is located on the 1st floor of our building and is therefore not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with very limited mobility. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.
