Gymnopédies

Three women.  One stage.  Thirty years apart.

Set in an empty Los Angeles theatre, Gymnopédies is a moving and sharply observed drama about memory, friendship, the masks we wear and the parts we play, on stage and off.  When three actresses are unexpectedly reunited for a read-through of a long-forgotten play, old bonds are rekindled and long-buried truths begin to surface.  What starts as a simple read-through quickly becomes a powerful exploration of past choices, fractured relationships, and the blurred lines between performance and reality.

With moments of tenderness, wit, and quiet revelation, Gymnopédies invites us to ask what happens when we’re forced to confront not only the stories we told each other, but the ones we told ourselves, when you are forced to remember, not just the make-believe of theatre, but also the reality of the past.

Written and directed by Martin Paul Roche, this is a rare and intimate piece of theatre – thoughtful, beautifully paced, funny, poignant and resonant long after the final line.

Step into the quiet of the dark and discover what waits in the wings of memory.
